The Pakistani government has rejected allegations concerning the prison and health conditions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, following a CNN report that raised concerns about his wellbeing while in custody.
The government said that Imran Khan is being provided with appropriate medical facilities and other provisions during his imprisonment. According to the official position, the former prime minister has access to medical examinations, meetings with family members, phone calls, home-cooked food and facilities for exercise.
According to the government, Imran Khan has undergone around 30 medical examinations during his imprisonment, while his family members have been allowed approximately 198 meetings with him.
The government presented these figures as evidence that arrangements are being made for his medical care and family access while he remains in custody.
The authorities also rejected concerns regarding the availability of basic facilities, saying that Imran Khan has access to exercise opportunities, telephone communication and food prepared at home.
The government also addressed questions concerning Imran Khan’s two sons and their ability to travel to Pakistan.
Officials said both of his sons hold valid National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs), which they described as an acceptable travel document for entry into Pakistan.
The issue has emerged amid continued public and political discussion over whether Imran Khan’s family members can visit him in prison.
CNN Report Raises Questions Over Imran Khan’s Health
The government’s response followed a CNN report in which journalist Becky Anderson aired an interview with a PTI leader based overseas. During the interview, the PTI representative expressed concerns about Imran Khan’s health and conditions in prison.
The report added to ongoing political debate surrounding the former prime minister’s imprisonment and his treatment while in custody.
Anderson subsequently shared the Pakistani government’s response through her social media account, allowing the official position to be presented alongside the concerns raised in the earlier interview.
The government urged CNN to distinguish between politically disputed claims and verified prison and medical records in future reporting.
The dispute comes amid continued international attention surrounding Imran Khan’s imprisonment, his health and access to family members. The competing claims underline the importance of independently verified medical and prison records in assessing his current condition.
