DUKI: Two coal miners were killed and four others were rendered unconscious after toxic gas filled a coal mine during mining operations in Duki, Balochistan.
The incident mentions once again the serious safety risks faced by workers in Balochistan’s coal-mining sector, where miners frequently work in hazardous underground conditions.
According to rescue officials, toxic gas accumulated inside the mine while mining operations were underway. Two workers died in the incident, while four others lost consciousness after being exposed to the poisonous gas.
In such a case, the rescue teams recovered the bodies of the deceased miners and evacuated the unconscious workers from the mine.
The affected workers were subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over safety conditions in coal mines across Duki, an area known for its mining activity. Underground miners face several dangers, including toxic gases, explosions, mine collapses and inadequate ventilation.
Mining accidents in the region have repeatedly raised questions about workplace safety standards and the protection available to workers operating in difficult underground environments.
Previous Deadly Mining Incident
The latest tragedy comes after another devastating coal-mining incident reported in the area last month. According to the information provided by rescue sources, a coal mine explosion at the time resulted in the deaths of 40 workers.
The repeated loss of miners has intensified concerns about the need for stronger safety measures, effective monitoring and improved emergency response systems in the mining sector.
The deaths in Duki are likely to bring renewed attention to the safety of coal miners and the conditions under which they work.
For families dependent on mining for their livelihoods, such accidents can have devastating consequences. The latest deaths once again underline the urgent need to strengthen safety measures and protect workers from preventable hazards.
