ISLAMABAD, August 21, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was moved back to Adiala Jail from Shifa International Hospital on Friday after undergoing a medical examination.
According to jail sources, authorities brought Imran Khan back to Adiala Jail under tight security and subsequently transferred him to his cell.
Earlier, authorities had shifted the former prime minister from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital amid heightened security. Before the transfer, the Islamabad inspector general of police, accompanied by senior police officers, visited the hospital and reviewed the security arrangements.
Meanwhile, authorities deployed a heavy contingent of police outside the hospital and imposed strict security measures in the surrounding area. Islamabad Police also closed some routes leading to and from the hospital to traffic as part of the security arrangements.
According to hospital sources, a team of six specialist doctors had been formed to conduct Imran Khan’s medical examination. The hospital had also completed special arrangements in case doctors decided to admit him for further treatment.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered authorities to transfer the PTI founder to Shifa International Hospital within two days for a medical examination.
However, the Supreme Court registrar’s office returned a review petition challenging the hospital transfer order on Thursday after raising objections to it.
