KARACHI : Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has launched a scathing attack on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), stating that the party’s self-styled leadership is neither elected by the people of Karachi nor represents their true will.
Reacting to a press conference held by MQM leaders earlier in the day, Shah dismissed the party’s claims and took aim at MQM Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. “It is clear from Khalid Maqbool’s press conference that he is suffering from severe mental stress,” Shah said. “His mental stress is understandable — his treatment lies only with the Federal Health Minister.”
The Sindh minister accused the MQM leadership of holding the province’s people, trade, peace, and prosperity hostage. “The people of Karachi know their faces and their past very well. The citizens have already rejected them,” he asserted.
Shah’s remarks came in response to MQM’s announcement to initiate a national dialogue on creating new provinces in the country. During a press conference in Karachi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui had declared that new provinces were “the need of the hour,” arguing that the current provinces were formed on linguistic grounds rather than legal requirements. He also noted that despite population growth and the creation of new districts, no new provinces had been established.
Dismissing the demand, Nasir Hussain Shah categorically stated that Sindh will not be divided. “However,” he added, “I am definitely seeing the MQM being divided.”
The exchange marks another escalation in the ongoing political tensions between the PPP and MQM in Sindh, with both parties trading barbs over governance, representation, and provincial boundaries.
