ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain in Pakistan on August 13 and 14 and issued alerts for urban flooding and landslides in several parts of the country.
The PMD weather alert covers Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Several areas may receive heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.
Pakistan Weather: Heavy Rain Forecast
The latest Pakistan weather forecast shows increased monsoon activity across the country.
The PMD said monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are entering the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly weather system is also affecting the northwestern areas.
The rain forecast shows showers and thunderstorms in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Potohar, northeastern Punjab and southern Punjab.
Some areas may receive heavy to very heavy rain.
Urban Flooding Alert for Major Cities
The urban flooding alert covers several major cities and low-lying areas.
The PMD warned that heavy rain could cause urban flooding in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Mardan and Swabi are also at risk.
Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert during periods of heavy rainfall.
Landslide Alert for Mountainous Areas
The landslide alert mainly covers vulnerable mountainous areas.
Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir could experience landslides following heavy rain.
People travelling through mountainous areas should exercise caution, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
Punjab Weather Forecast
The Punjab weather is expected to remain unsettled in several districts.
Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal.
Some areas could receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Weather
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather forecast also indicates rain across several districts.
Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar and Mardan are likely to receive rain.
Heavy rainfall is possible at isolated locations.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi Weather Alert
The Islamabad weather and Rawalpindi weather outlook remains rainy during the forecast period.
The PMD has specifically warned of urban flooding in low-lying parts of both cities.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall and remain alert to possible water accumulation on roads.
Monsoon Rains to Continue
The Pakistan monsoon system is expected to remain active over the upper parts of the country.
In Sindh, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot and Ghotki during the evening or night.
In Balochistan, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Zhob and Khuzdar may receive rain and thunderstorms.
The PMD said most plain areas of the country will remain hot and humid.
Authorities and citizens in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as heavy monsoon rains may trigger urban flooding and landslides.
