PESHAWAR : In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the provincial capital, a young girl allegedly threw acid at a boy in Peshawar after he refused to marry her, police confirmed on Thursday.
The attack took place in the Chamkani area, following which the victim was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for emergency medical care. According to doctors attending to the patient, the young man’s condition is now stable and out of danger, though he continues to receive treatment for chemical burns.
Police have registered a formal case at the Chamkani police station based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family. The First Information Report (FIR) reveals that the boy and the girl shared a friendly relationship, which reportedly developed into a one-sided romantic expectation on the girl’s part. According to the text of the FIR, the girl expressed her desire to marry the boy, but he clearly refused the proposal. Enraged by his rejection, the accused allegedly hurled acid at him in a fit of vengeance.
Authorities have stated that investigations are underway from all angles, and the accused girl is expected to be arrested soon. Police teams have been deployed to trace her whereabouts and gather forensic evidence from the scene of the crime.
“This is a deeply disturbing case. We are treating it with the utmost seriousness and will ensure that justice is served,” a police official said, adding that all legal formalities are being followed.
The incident has reignited concerns over acid violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where such attacks—though relatively rare—often leave victims with lifelong physical and psychological scars. Acid throwing is a punishable offense under Pakistani law, carrying severe penalties including life imprisonment.
The Lady Reading Hospital administration has confirmed that the victim is responding well to treatment. “His burns are being managed, and he is currently out of danger. He will, however, require extended care and possible reconstructive surgery in the future,” a medical officer stated.
As the investigation continues, the police have appealed to the public to come forward with any additional information that may assist in the swift arrest of the accused. Further developments are awaited.
