QUETTA: The Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) has made progress in expanding agriculture and supporting farmers in Balochistan, officials said.
Under the first phase, authorities developed 3,800 acres of farmland in Duki, Qila Saifullah and Sibi.
The project also installed 144 solar-powered tube wells in the three districts.
The second phase expanded the programme to Kohlu, Barkhan, Chaman, Nushki, Dera Bugti, Zhob, Mastung, Quetta and Qila Saifullah.
Authorities developed 8,481 acres of additional farmland under the second phase.
The two phases have brought thousands of acres of land under cultivation and benefited 288 farmers, according to officials.
Farmers are growing wheat and cotton on the newly developed land. They are also establishing orchards.
Officials said the projects are creating local jobs and increasing agricultural production.

The initiative is also helping farmers improve their livelihoods and strengthen local economic activity, they added.
