QUETTA: In a significant move following public outcry over the deaths of multiple individuals, including the father of Asma Jattak, the Balochistan Home Department has officially constituted a high-level fact-finding inquiry committee to probe the incident.
According to a formal notification issued by the Home Department, the committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into all aspects surrounding the tragedy. The decision comes as pressure mounted on the provincial government to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.
Commissioner Kalat Division has been appointed as the Chairman of the fact-finding committee. The panel also includes Deputy Commissioner Hub and Deputy Commissioner Awaran as members, while Superintendent of Police (SP) Hub has been named as the Member Secretary. Additionally, representatives from intelligence agencies and the Special Branch Police will be part of the team to provide technical and field support.
The committee has been granted broad authority to obtain any relevant records, documents, and evidence deemed necessary for the investigation. Its terms of reference include a detailed review of all facts, circumstances, and motives behind the incident. The panel will identify any negligence, omissions, or lapses on the part of individuals or institutions, and determine those responsible in the light of the law and available evidence.
A senior official from the Balochistan Home Department confirmed that the committee has been given a strict 15-day deadline to submit a comprehensive report to the provincial government. The findings will be made public to ensure complete transparency.
“The Balochistan government is committed to a fair and unbiased inquiry into this tragic event. No effort will be spared to bring out the truth and hold the guilty accountable,” the official added.
The incident, which claimed the lives of Asma Jattak’s father and several other people, had sparked widespread concern and demands for an independent investigation. The formation of this committee is seen as a key step toward addressing those demands and restoring public confidence in the province’s justice system.
