Pakistan Reduces Petrol and Diesel Prices

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products, acting on directives from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Petrol prices have been decreased by 3.39 rupees, bringing the new rate to 328.56 rupees per liter, while high-speed diesel has been made cheaper by 4.07 rupees, setting its new price at 385.86 rupees per liter.

The Petroleum Division has officially issued a notification confirming the price revisions.

Trend Analysis of Petrol Prices in Pakistan

Over the past three months, the trajectory of petroleum prices in Pakistan has reflected a delicate balancing act influenced by fluctuating international crude oil benchmarks, shifting global supply chains, and domestic fiscal adjustments managed by the federal government and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

During the initial phase of this period, domestic fuel rates faced upward pressure driven by regional geopolitical tensions and rising global energy demands, which temporarily pushed Brent crude markers higher.

Consequently, consumers experienced a series of upward revisions, keeping inflation elevated and directly impacting transportation, public transit, and freight costs across the country.

However, as the quarter progressed, international markets began to stabilize amid rising production outputs and softened global demand projections.

This international easing provided much-needed fiscal breathing room, enabling authorities to pass relief down to the domestic market.

In recent weeks, fuel prices transitioned from consecutive hikes to incremental downward adjustments, culminating in recent cuts that brought petrol prices down by over three rupees and diesel by more than four rupees per liter.

Despite these minor reliefs, the broader three-month trend underscores the persistent volatility of energy costs in Pakistan.

High petroleum levies, general sales taxes, and the ongoing vulnerability of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar continue to dictate local pump prices, making long-term fuel affordability a constant challenge for both everyday citizens and the national economy.
