ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted a meeting of Chiefs of Staff, representatives from brotherly and friendly nations, and the European Union Delegation to discuss the initiative to establish a multinational maritime defense alliance aimed at enhancing maritime security, protecting international waterways, and countering threats to global trade.
The meeting drew participation from 43 countries and the EU delegation out of 51 invited nations and organizations. Participants focused on rising maritime threats—including attacks on commercial vessels, energy tankers, and maritime infrastructure—and evaluated the draft charter, command structures, and operational mechanisms of the alliance, which will operate within the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
Attendees also recognized Saudi Arabia as the founding and leading state and the host of the alliance’s headquarters.

A joint statement was issued by fourteen participating countries affirming support for the alliance project and its founding arrangements.
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is among these founding supporting nations, alongside Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sudan, Djibouti, and Somalia, thereby revealing Pakistan’s unshaken and firm support for this collective regional and international security framework.
Military planners from participating states will continue working to finalize the charter and technical frameworks ahead of the official launch.
