LAHORE/ PESHAWAR: Monsoon spells are currently active across various parts of Pakistan, bringing heavy rainfall that has caused widespread loss of life and property due to collapsing roofs, walls, and flash floods in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Various incidents have resulted in 23 deaths and dozens of injuries, alongside damage to numerous homes.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rains in Punjab have caused roof collapses and other accidents leading to 9 fatalities and dozens of injuries.
Near Lahore, a roof collapse in the Kot Babu Khan area of Raiwind resulted in one death and three injuries, while another roof collapse near Gulshan Ravi on Band Road in Lahore injured four individuals.
In Pakpattan, a room roof collapse in 75-D village claimed the life of a woman, and a young man was electrocuted in Houta.
In Gujrat, roof collapses caused one death and six injuries, whereas a roof collapse in Sialkot injured three people.
According to rescue authorities, eight different incidents of roof and wall collapses in Gujranwala caused 3 deaths and 14 injuries, while three separate electrocution accidents resulted in 1 fatality and 2 injuries.
In Sahiwal, roof collapses killed a woman and injured three people, roof and wall collapses in Mandi Bahauddin injured eight individuals, and a shed collapse in Bahawalnagar injured one person.
Heavy downpours flooded roads in Pindi Bhattian, causing severe commuting difficulties for citizens, while Faisalabad and Bhalwal also received heavy rainfall that submerged low-lying areas, alongside heavy showers in Jhang and its surroundings.
According to the PDMA, the monsoon spell is expected to continue until July 24.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that various incidents across districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have resulted in 14 deaths and 19 injuries, comprising 6 men, 6 children, and 2 women among the deceased, and 11 men, 4 women, and 4 children among the injured.
The report indicates that rains and flash floods have affected 28 houses so far, completely destroying 6 homes and partially damaging 22.
According to PDMA data, these incidents occurred in Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar, Kurram, and North Wazirstan.
Spokespersons stated that the PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations are continuously conducting relief operations in all affected areas, while water levels and flows in all provincial rivers and streams currently remain normal.
The PDMA has also warned that this spell of rainfall is likely to continue intermittently until July 23.
