LANDI KOTAL: A vehicle carrying Afghan families returning to Afghanistan was swept away by flash floods triggered by torrential rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district on Monday. rescue officials said.
The incident occurred near Sultan Khel Market on the Pak-Afghan Highway in Landi Kotal after heavy rain sent a powerful flood surge through the area.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert. District Emergency Officer Engineer Shariq Riaz Khattak dispatched rescue personnel, who launched search and rescue operations.
Authorities did not immediately confirm the number of people in the vehicle or report any casualties.
Rescue officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and stay away from rivers, streams, and flood channels due to the risk of sudden flash floods.
Emergency response teams remain deployed at Ali Masjid, Takhta Beg, Landi Kotal, and Sultan Khel to respond to any further incidents.
Officials advised the public to call the 1122 emergency helpline in case of any emergency.
