Pakistan’s ICT Exports Hit Record $4.6 Billion in FY2025-26

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information and communications technology (ICT) exports reached a record $4.6 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting a 21 percent year-on-year increase, Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said on Friday.

The minister said monthly ICT exports stood at $416 million in June, up 23 percent compared with the same month last year. Pakistan also posted an ICT trade surplus of $3.9 billion, an increase of 18 percent over FY2024-25.

The figures highlight the continued expansion of Pakistan’s technology sector, which has emerged as the country’s largest services export industry and a key source of foreign exchange.

Khawaja credited the record performance to the combined efforts of freelancers, startups, IT companies and government initiatives aimed at creating a favorable environment for sustainable growth.

“This success is the collective outcome of the efforts of our freelancers, startups, IT companies, and the Pakistani government’s investments and provision of an environment conducive to sustainable development,” she wrote on X.

According to state media, the export growth was driven by strong demand for software development, business process outsourcing (BPO), the gaming industry and Software as a Service (SaaS).

Pakistani technology firms also expanded their presence in Asia-Pacific markets, particularly Japan and Singapore, reducing their reliance on traditional destinations in North America, Europe and the Gulf.

The government has prioritized the technology sector as part of its broader strategy to boost exports, attract foreign investment and support economic recovery under the country’s $7 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
