KABUL: Former Afghan Army Chief General Sami Sadat has formally confirmed that the Taliban provides support for terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.
He stated that militants carrying out attacks within Pakistan operate with the full backing of the Afghan Taliban.
General Sadat further revealed that the Taliban maintains close ties with India, which provides financial assistance to the Taliban.
According to the former army chief, these Indian funds are directed to extremist groups such as Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan.
General Sadat asserted that these resources are specifically utilized to facilitate terrorist operations against Pakistan, with the Taliban actively assisting these groups in their anti-Pakistan activities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan remain the epicenters of militant violence in Pakistan, together accounting for approximately 96% of all violence-linked fatalities in the second quarter of 2026.
During this period, KP emerged as the most affected region, recording 475 fatalities (over 61% of the national total) and 151 violent incidents.
Balochistan recorded 265 fatalities and 94 incidents, representing 34% of violence-linked deaths.
While there was a marginal national decline in violence in early 2026, this aggregate trend masked a sharp deterioration in KP, where fatalities surged by roughly 53% between the first and second quarters.
Conversely, Balochistan experienced a reduction in fatalities during the same timeframe.
Militant groups, most notably the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), frequently target security forces, government installations, and civilians using tactics such as shootings, coordinated armed attacks, and suicide bombings.
Civilians continue to face significant vulnerability as non-combatants, with hundreds of deaths recorded across these regions throughout the year, underscoring the persistent and evolving threat posed by these militant networks.
