Islamabad : he Pakistani security establishment has launched “Operation Shaban,” a comprehensive, large-scale military campaign across Balochistan, aimed at dismantling the growing militant networks of both the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
The operation was initiated in direct response to a devastating militant attack on July 7 at the Mangi Dam, which resulted in the tragic loss of 27 police personnel.
Since the launch of the campaign, state authorities report that security forces—comprising the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Balochistan Police, and specialized air support—have neutralized approximately 123 militants.
Security analysts observe that the campaign is strategically two-pronged: it targets TTP elements operating in the northern districts while simultaneously engaging the BLA and various separatist factions active in the southern regions of the province. Government officials stated that the primary objective of the operation is to systematically destroy militant infrastructure, eliminate established safe havens, and decisively restore state authority across the province.
The current security climate in Balochistan has become increasingly complex, as both the TTP and Baloch militant groups have expanded their operational reach, frequently targeting security forces, critical infrastructure, and high-stakes investment projects.
While the military campaign remains the immediate priority, experts emphasize that long-term stability in the region will necessitate a multi-dimensional approach.
