Iranian delegation arrives in Oman for consultations on the Strait of Hormuz

OMAN: The senior Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has arrived in Oman for discussions concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

The talks in Oman are focused on maritime security and mechanisms aimed at ensuring the safe passage of vessels through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is considered one of the world’s most vital energy transit routes and remains a key area of international interest.

In this regard, the Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that negotiations held in Switzerland had reached an important stage regarding the release of approximately $12 billion in Iranian assets that had previously been frozen.

He said the necessary procedures and agreements had been finalized to facilitate the release of the funds.

In this sense, Ghalibaf further noted that participating parties had agreed to establish a communication and coordination system for ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

He explained that the initiative is intended to prevent misunderstandings, reduce tensions, and avoid any potential confrontation in the region.

So far, Iranian negotiator also said that, as part of the understandings reached during the Switzerland talks, there was agreement on guarantees related to Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The development has been viewed as part of broader diplomatic efforts aimed at increasing regional stability.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed Tehran’s commitment to continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He stated that Iran would maintain its engagement with the UN nuclear watchdog in accordance with its established procedures and that future decisions would be guided by the country’s Consultative Assembly and Supreme National Security Council.

He also indicated that certain frozen Iranian assets had already been released and that previous blockade measures had been eased.

The developments are being closely watched by regional and international stakeholders, as they could have significant implications for economic cooperation, maritime security, and diplomatic relations across the Middle East.
