BRIENZSTOCK: Scheduled talks between the United States and Iran in Geneva were cancelled on Friday as Israeli forces carried out a wave of airstrikes in South Lebanon which left at least 16 people dead.
Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry announced that the planned negotiations between Washington and Tehran would no longer take place.
The development came after the postponement of U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s planned trip to Switzerland, according to media reports.
A White House spokesperson confirmed that the vice president’s departure had been delayed. The spokesperson added that the United States remains interested in launching technical-level talks with Iran as soon as possible.
The cancellation comes at a time of increased diplomatic efforts and growing uncertainty across the region, although officials did not immediately provide details on the reasons behind the decision.
