MIRPUR: Law enforcement authorities say they recovered weapons, police equipment, and electronic devices during a raid on the residence of Khawaja Mehran, a core committee member of the banned Awami Action Committee (AAC).
According to officials, the raid took place at Mehran’s residence in Dadyal, Mirpur, after authorities received reports of suspected activities at the property. Mehran was reportedly not present at the time and is currently participating in a sit-in in Rawalakot.
Authorities said they recovered a drone, a 12-bore shotgun with ammunition, a pistol, four USB drives, a laptop, and several items they identified as belonging to Islamabad Police, including protective equipment and helmets.
Officials also cited statements allegedly made by a household employee identified as Shahid Aslam. According to authorities, the employee claimed that before leaving for Rawalakot, Mehran arranged for two ambulances to transport equipment from the residence.
The employee allegedly told investigators that several weapons, including Kalashnikov rifles, 12-bore shotguns, ammunition, slingshots, stones, broken glass bottles, and cash were removed from the property before the raid. He also claimed that police shell-firing guns allegedly seized during a previous protest march were transported to Rawalakot.
Authorities further said the employee alleged that weapons were regularly stored at the residence and that several individuals wanted in criminal cases, as well as persons linked to narcotics activities, had been assigned to provide security for Mehran.
The claims have not been independently verified. Khawaja Mehran and representatives of the Awami Action Committee have not publicly responded to the allegations. Authorities said investigations are ongoing.
