Azad Kashmir Govt Reinstates 177 FIRs Against Banned Action Committee Activists

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Kashmir (AK) government has reinstated 177 criminal cases against members and leaders of the Awami Joint Action Committee that were previously withdrawn under a peace agreement signed on October 4, 2025, officials said.

The cases were originally registered in connection with unrest and attacks that resulted in the deaths of police personnel. Under the peace accord, the government had canceled the First Information Reports (FIRs) through an official notification as part of efforts to restore stability.

According to government officials, the agreement included a key provision requiring the banned Action Committee to raise all future disputes through an implementation committee rather than through public protests or street demonstrations.

Authorities allege that the committee later violated the agreement by returning to the streets and inciting fresh unrest. In response, the government issued a new notification revoking the earlier decision and restoring all 177 FIRs.

Officials said the move reflects the government’s commitment to enforcing the terms of the peace agreement and maintaining public order.

The development marks a significant escalation in tensions between the government and the banned Awami Action Committee. Authorities have signaled a tougher approach toward individuals accused of involvement in violence and public disorder.

Government officials said no further concessions would be offered to those found responsible for violating the agreement or participating in acts of unrest.
