Grand Alliance Balochistan Launches Two-Day Lockdown Strike Across Province

QUETTA: The Grand Alliance Balochistan has intensified its protest movement by launching a two-day lockdown strike across government institutions in the province, pressing the government to accept its demands and address employees’ grievances.

As part of the strike, government offices in various districts of Balochistan remained closed, disrupting routine administrative activities. Alliance representatives said the protest would affect operations in several public departments as employees seek action on long-standing service-related issues.

The alliance accused the provincial government of responding to workers’ concerns with dismissals and disciplinary measures rather than engaging in meaningful dialogue. It said employees were being penalized for raising legitimate demands regarding job security and working conditions.

However, the alliance clarified that essential healthcare services would remain unaffected. Emergency and trauma departments at hospitals across the province will continue operating normally to ensure uninterrupted medical care for the public.

In a further escalation of its campaign, the Grand Alliance announced plans to establish a protest camp outside the Quetta Press Club on June 15. Demonstrations will also be organized in all districts of Balochistan to expand the movement and mobilize government employees and supporters across the province.

The alliance has additionally declared its intention to stage a sit-in during the upcoming provincial budget session. Observers say the move could increase pressure on the government if negotiations between the two sides fail to produce a breakthrough.

The provincial government has not yet issued an official response to the latest phase of protests and strike action. If the deadlock continues, administrative operations in several government departments could face further disruption.

The Grand Alliance Balochistan is a coalition of representative organizations from various government departments. It advocates for employees’ rights, job protection, improved service conditions, and broader workplace reforms across the province.
