ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has postponed a key meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) for a third time as coalition partners continue consultations on the upcoming federal budget.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister’s House at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities have now rescheduled it for June 9.
Sources said the government delayed the meeting because coalition partners continued discussions on budget proposals and financial matters.
Negotiations between the ruling coalition partners, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), continued late into the night, the sources said.
Both parties agreed to hold further consultations before finalizing key budget decisions.
According to officials, the NEC will now meet at 11:30 a.m. on June 9 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House.
The council is expected to review development priorities, economic targets and other major fiscal issues for the next financial year.
The government is currently finalizing preparations for the federal budget and is working to build consensus among coalition partners on key economic measures.
