Suspected main accused in Acid Attack Case dies after police encounter near intercity bus terminal

QUETTA: The Provincial Minister for Interior was briefed on the death of the main suspect involved in the disturbing incident reported in the district.

In this regard, the law enforcement agencies had launched an extensive search and combing operation across the district shortly after the incident to apprehend the accused.

In this sense, identified as Humayun Shah, was traced near the Intercity Bus Terminal area following intelligence-based operations and coordinated surveillance efforts.

Police personnel attempted to stop and arrest the suspect in a controlled manner, instructing him to surrender peacefully.

However, according to preliminary police accounts, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the law enforcement team instead of complying with the arrest instructions. In response, police returned fire in what officials described as a defensive action. As a result of the exchange, the suspect sustained serious injuries.

He was immediately shifted for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.

The law enforcement teams secured the scene and carried out a detailed search operation in the surrounding area. Authorities recovered one pistol, four live rounds of ammunition, and two spent bullet casings from the location.

All recovered evidence has been taken into official custody in accordance with legal procedures for further forensic examination and investigation.

The Provincial Minister for Interior, while addressing the briefing, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of life and property of citizens.

He stated that elements involved in violent and unlawful activities will be dealt with firmly without any discrimination.

He also appreciated the timely response of law enforcement agencies and directed that strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy must be ensured against serious crimes such as acid attacks.

The minister further stressed that maintaining public safety remains a top priority of the government, and all necessary steps will continue to be taken to uphold the rule of law.
