National Survey Reports Rise in Horses, Mules, and Donkeys Across Country

ISLAMABAD :  The National Economic Survey 2025–26 has reported a steady rise in the country’s livestock population, with significant increases recorded for donkeys, buffaloes, cows, goats, and other animals over the current fiscal year.

 

According to the survey, the livestock sector posted a growth rate of 3.8% in fiscal year 2025–26.

 

The number of donkeys reached 6.16 million, reflecting an annual increase of 1.9%. Mules grew by 1.8% to 221,000, while horses rose 0.8% to a total of 386,000.

 

Buffaloes exceeded 49.1 million, showing a 3% annual increase. The cow population climbed to 61.96 million, up by 3.8%. Goats grew by 2.7% from the previous year’s figure of 91.8 million. Sheep numbers increased 1.2% to over 33.5 million, and camels rose 1.4% to 1.193 million.

 

The survey also noted a 1.7% growth in the fisheries sector during the current financial year
