WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has claimed that he successfully intervened to stop Israel from launching further attacks on Lebanon.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, the US President asserted that he had been in direct contact with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leadership of Hezbollah, leading to an agreement where both sides will cease mutual attacks.
He described his discussions with the Israeli Prime Minister as highly productive and noted that he had a good dialogue with Hezbollah as well.
President Trump further shared that the diplomatic process with Iran is rapidly progressing, though a quiet naval blockade of the country will remain in place.
He clarified that even if talks are temporarily suspended, it does not mean the US will initiate bombings, emphasizing that no American troops will be deployed to Beirut.
According to Trump, Hezbollah has agreed to halt all offensives on the condition that Israel refrains from attacking them.
Reflecting on the intense ongoing negotiations, the US President remarked that sometimes keeping details quiet yields the best results.
