Young Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by breaking a major T20 cricket record previously held by former West Indies star Chris Gayle.
Suryavanshi achieved the milestone during the IPL Eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The talented batter has now smashed 65 sixes in the ongoing tournament, setting a new record for the most sixes hit in a single T20 tournament.
The record belonged to legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle, who had hit 59 sixes during the 2012 IPL season. Gayle’s record had remained unbeaten for more than a decade and was widely considered one of the most remarkable batting achievements in T20 cricket.
What makes Suryavanshi’s performance even more impressive is the speed at which he reached the landmark. Chris Gayle had taken 456 deliveries to complete his 59 sixes, while Vaibhav Suryavanshi crossed the new milestone in only 266 balls.
Chris Gayle also congratulated the young cricketer through a message shared on social media platform X. The former West Indies opener described Suryavanshi as an “extraordinary player” and appreciated his ability to entertain cricket fans with aggressive and exciting batting performances.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable season has played a key role in Rajasthan Royals’ strong campaign in IPL 2026. His consistent performances with the bat have earned him praise from cricket experts, former players, and supporters around the world.
The record-breaking feat is being viewed as another sign of the growing talent in modern T20 cricket, where young players continue to redefine batting standards with fearless and attacking cricket. Suryavanshi’s achievement is expected to remain one of the major highlights of the IPL 2026 season.
