ISLAMABAD: The Sixth International Paigham-i-Islam Conference on Wednesday conferred the titles “Leader of Peace” and “‘Century’s Victorious General” on Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, citing his role in promoting peace and stability across the Muslim world.
The conference was organised by the International Tazeem-i-Haramain Sharifain Council and the Pakistan Ulema Council.
Participants condemned recent attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. They voiced concern over strikes in the Middle East and said such actions undermine regional stability.
The forum called for stronger national security, unity among Muslim countries, and greater interfaith harmony.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the conference. Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, Palestinian Ambassador Dr Zuhair Mohammad Hamdallah Zaid, Grand Mufti of Palestine Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, and Chief Justice of Palestine Dr Mahmoud Al-Habbash were also present. Senior Saudi and Palestinian representatives, religious scholars, and international delegates attended.
The conference honoured several national and international figures for contributions to peace and unity in the Muslim world.
Organisers presented Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a shield of appreciation for his stance on key international issues, especially Palestine.
They also honoured Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, named “Global Personality of 2025,” for advancing defence cooperation with Pakistan and promoting unity and peace.
Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi reaffirmed support for the government, the armed forces, and national security institutions.
He congratulated the nation on recent achievements, including successes in Marka-i-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He called for unity within the Muslim Ummah and endorsed Pakistan’s position on regional issues, including Iran and ties with Arab countries.
Ashrafi highlighted Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defence cooperation and described it as vital for strengthening collective security in the Muslim world.
The conference condemned the killing of religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai. It said violence, extortion, and lawlessness have no link with Islam or Shariah. It expressed solidarity with state institutions in maintaining law and order.
Participants stressed the need for stronger coordination among religious scholars in Pakistan and across the Muslim world.
Organisers announced that the Seventh International Paigham-i-Islam Conference will take place in March 2027. They said invitations will go to global religious leaders, including the imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Grand Mufti of Palestine, the sheikh of Al-Azhar, and the Pope, to promote interfaith harmony.
They also said similar conferences will be held in other countries under the council’s platform.
The final session will take place at Aiwan-i-Sadr under President Asif Ali Zardari. International delegates will depart afterward.
