WASHINGTON, D.C. : President Donald J. Trump announced on Truth Social that he has directed the U.S. military to hold off on an attack against Iran, following requests from top Pakistani leadership and amid reports of a fractured Iranian government.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump stated that Iran’s government is “seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so.” He added that Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan had asked the United States to delay any military action.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured … and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump wrote.
The president said he has therefore ordered the U.S. military to “continue the Blockade” and remain “ready and able” in all other respects. He also announced an extension of the current ceasefire until Iran submits a proposal and discussions conclude “one way or the other.”
Neither the White House nor the Pentagon immediately released further details on the nature of the proposed attack or the scope of the blockade. Officials from Pakistan’s government have not yet publicly commented on Trump’s claims.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, though Trump’s characterization of Iran’s leadership as “fractured” suggests internal divisions within the Iranian regime. It remains unclear what unified proposal the U.S. is seeking from Tehran.
The extended ceasefire, according to Trump’s post, will remain in effect until negotiations are complete
