WASHINGTON : Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of forcing President Donald Trump into a war with Iran, a conflict she says runs contrary to the will of the American people.
In a statement, Harris claimed that Trump was pushed into a war in which US citizens had no interest. She warned that American soldiers’ lives have been put at risk as a result of the decision.
“The decision to go to war against Iran is against the wishes of the people and has only increased tensions across the region,” Harris said.
She urged the United States to avoid becoming entangled in conflicts that do not directly align with national interests.
Harris’s remarks come amid heightened US-Iran hostilities that have sparked global concern. Diplomatic voices from various quarters are calling for a peaceful resolution, as a fragile 15-day ceasefire between the US and Iran has only three days remaining.
The former vice president did not provide specific evidence for her claim that the Israeli prime minister pressured President Trump. The White House and the Israeli government have not yet issued an official response to her allegations.
With the clock ticking on the ceasefire, international observers are watching closely to see whether diplomacy can prevail or whether the region will slide into a wider conflict.
