TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday closed the Strait of Hormuz again in response to a continued US naval blockade of its ports, state media reported.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had warned a day earlier that the key waterway would not remain open if Washington maintained its military pressure in the region.
Iran’s military said it had reimposed restrictions on the strategic maritime route, accusing the United States of failing to meet its commitments.
US President Donald Trump said the naval blockade would remain “in full force and effect” until a permanent agreement is reached.
Iran’s joint military command said a limited number of vessels had previously been allowed to pass under an arrangement, but the deal collapsed after what it described as non-compliance by the United States.
It said the Strait of Hormuz is now closed and that all transit will require prior approval from Iranian authorities.

State broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported that Tehran has placed the waterway under strict control of its armed forces and will maintain restrictions as long as the blockade continues.
