Ex-Afghan Cricketer Hospitalised in ICU

KABUL: Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran is in critical condition and receiving treatment in an intensive care unit, media reports said on Saturday.

Doctors are closely monitoring the 38-year-old, whose condition remains serious. Family sources said his white blood cell count has dropped to a dangerously low level, leaving him in a fragile state.

Images from the hospital have circulated widely on social media, prompting an outpouring of support from cricket fans and former players.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said he spoke with Zadran’s brother and expressed concern over his condition. He offered prayers for his recovery.

Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal also described Zadran as a close friend and wished him a speedy recovery.

Zadran is among Afghanistan’s prominent cricketers. He made his international debut in 2009 and represented the country in 80 matches. He claimed 44 wickets in One-Day Internationals and 27 in Twenty20 Internationals.
