UK Parliament Commends Pakistan’s Role in Facilitating US-Iran Talks

LONDON: A British lawmaker praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating talks between the United States and Iran, saying Islamabad demonstrated global leadership by hosting and mediating the negotiations.

Speaking in the UK Parliament, Member of Parliament Muhammad Afzal asked Prime Minister Keir Starmer how Britain was supporting Pakistan, a longstanding ally, in efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Afzal commended the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir. He said their engagement helped make a ceasefire possible and earned global appreciation.

Responding to the question, Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated his appreciation for Pakistan’s role. He said he had spoken with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ahead of the talks to explore possible cooperation.

Starmer added that the UK foreign secretary had also been in contact with Pakistan’s foreign minister. He stressed the importance of continued support for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and advance peace.
