US State Department confirms Rubio to take part in Lebanon-Israel talks

The United States Department of State has confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will participate in a scheduled meeting on Tuesday involving the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel to Washington.

The talks are set to take place at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time (15:30 GMT) at the State Department.

Israel’s ambassador Yechiel Leiter and Lebanon’s ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad will join the meeting, which is being viewed as a significant diplomatic effort to address rising tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.

In this regard, the primary objective of the discussions is to explore pathways toward de-escalation in southern Lebanon, where ongoing hostilities have intensified in recent weeks. Israeli military operations targeting positions of Hezbollah have resulted in widespread displacement and casualties.

In addition, more than 2,000 people have been killed and over 6,500 injured, while hundreds of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in the affected areas continues to deteriorate, with international observers expressing concern over the growing impact on civilian populations. The United States has reasserted its commitment to supporting diplomatic solutions aimed at restoring stability in the region.

However, the planned meeting has drawn criticism from Hezbollah leadership. Hezbollah maintains that any engagement with Israel undermines its political and strategic stance.
