WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump showed unusual indifference toward ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran, saying the outcome of talks held in Islamabad “does not matter much” to him.
Speaking to the media, Trump said a deal with Iran “may or may not happen,” but stressed that the United States would stand firm on its position in either case.
“We will see what happens next, but success or failure is not important to me,” he said.
Trump claimed that the United States had already gained the upper hand against Iran. He said Iranian leadership had been “eliminated,” and its naval, air, and defense capabilities had been destroyed, declaring the conflict effectively won.
He also voiced concern over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. Trump said there were fears of naval mines in the area but added that U.S. forces were working to clear them using advanced equipment.
Commenting on reports that China may be supplying weapons to Iran, Trump warned that such a move would have “very serious consequences” for Beijing if confirmed.
