ISLAMABAD: Former US diplomat Jeffrey Gunther, during a live television programme, pushed back strongly on questions regarding Pakistan’s role in recent regional developments, saying Pakistan’s contribution during the Iran–US ceasefire was being misrepresented.
He responded sharply to an Indian anchor’s questions and said the narrative surrounding Pakistan’s role was being distorted.
On a question regarding security for the US Vice President in Pakistan, Gunther said Vice President JD Vance was fully secure in Pakistan. He said the issue was being unnecessarily politicised.
He said the focus should not be on politics or propaganda but on human lives, employment, and the global economy, particularly the impact on oil prices and energy supply chains.

The former US diplomat said media outlets should avoid turning sensitive diplomatic developments into an India-Pakistan narrative battle.
He said such approaches risk escalating tensions rather than reducing them in the region.

Gunther added that diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and ceasefire should be acknowledged rather than politicised.
