PM Shehbaz announces US-Iran ceasefire, invites bothsides to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD :  Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Wednesday that the United States and Iran, along with their respective allies in Lebanon and elsewhere, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. Expressing gratitude for the breakthrough, he invited both delegations to Islamabad for further talks on April 10.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said: “It is with great humility and joy that I announce the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America have agreed to an immediate ceasefire with their allies in Lebanon and elsewhere.”

He welcomed what he called a “warm initiative” and sincerely thanked the leadership of both countries. He extended an invitation to their delegations to travel to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, for additional talks aimed at resolving all outstanding disputes and reaching a final agreement.

Sharif praised both sides for showing “remarkable wisdom and understanding” and for engaging constructively to advance peace and stability. “We are hopeful that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ will be successful in achieving lasting peace. We want to share more good things,” he added.

According to officials, the Prime Minister had earlier requested the US President to extend the deadline for attacking Iran by two weeks to give diplomacy a chance. Simultaneously, he had asked Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks. Both parties agreed to those requests, paving the way for the current ceasefire and the planned negotiations.

No immediate statements were issued by Washington or Tehran, but the Pakistani premier’s announcement marked the first public confirmation of the breakthrough.
