Bernie Sanders calls Trump ‘mentally unstable’

Trump Signals US Exit from Iran War Without Deal

WASHINGTON: US senators have lashed out at President Donald Trump over his derogatory remarks against Iran, with some calling him “mentally unstable” and demanding that Congress take immediate action to end the war.

Senator Bernie Sanders described President Trump’s threats as “dangerous” and said that Trump is mentally unstable. “Congress must take immediate action to end the war,” Sanders added.

Senator Chuck Schumer accused Trump of “screaming like a madman on social media” and openly threatening war crimes. His sharp rebuke came after Trump’s recent statements warning of destroying Iran’s bridges, power plants, and civilian infrastructure if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz.

Senator Chris Murphy went a step further, calling for the implementation of the 25th Amendment. “If I were in the cabinet, I would have talked about the amendment,” Murphy said. Under the 25th Amendment, the Vice President can assume presidential powers if the President is deemed unable to discharge his duties.

The backlash from senior US senators reflects growing concern within Washington over Trump’s escalating rhetoric against Iran, which many lawmakers fear could lead to further military escalation in the Middle East.

No immediate response from the White House was available regarding the senators’ statements.
