ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday strongly rebutted ‘baseless’ media and social media claims that it mediated talks between the United States and Iran.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on official X account that the reports misrepresent Pakistan’s role in regional tensions.
Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the claims are false. He said some media reports and social media posts relied on inaccurate interpretations of official remarks.
“These insinuations are baseless and a figment of imagination,” the statement said. It added that parts of Friday’s foreign ministry briefing were misreported.
The ministry urged media outlets to act responsibly. It asked them to avoid speculation and rely on official statements to ensure accuracy.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump said talks with Iran are continuing.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump said the reported downing of a U.S. F-15 jet over Iran would not affect negotiations.
“No, not at all. No — it’s war,” he said. He added that diplomatic efforts and military operations are moving forward at the same time.
Trump declined to share details of an ongoing search-and-rescue mission. He described it as complex and active. He also criticized media coverage of the operation.
