Civil-Military Leadership Reviews Economy, Energy, and Regional Security

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s civil and military leadership held a high-level consultative meeting at the President’s Office to review the country’s economic outlook, energy challenges, and regional security situation, officials said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif co-chaired the meeting. Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir also attended the meeting. Senior cabinet members and top officials were also present, including Ishaq Dar, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Mohsin Naqvi, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Ahad Cheema.

Officials convened the meeting amid global oil supply disruptions and rising petroleum prices. Participants assessed the impact on Pakistan’s economy and energy security.

Finance and petroleum officials briefed the meeting on measures to stabilize fuel prices and limit spillover effects on other sectors. Participants focused on containing inflation and ensuring steady energy supplies.

The meeting decided to enforce austerity measures to reduce government spending and maintain fiscal discipline. Leaders also reviewed the broader regional situation and its implications for security, economic stability, and food security.

Participants stressed the need for a coordinated national response. They agreed to align policy decisions with economic stability and public interest.

The meeting emphasized stronger coordination among institutions to improve economic management, energy planning, and security oversight.

Officials also called for public awareness campaigns to reduce fuel consumption. They urged greater use of public transport and ride-sharing to ease pressure on national resources.
