US in Negotiations with Iran ‘Right Now’: Trump

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran to end the Middle East conflict are “underway,” even as both sides deny formal talks.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said U.S. officials, including JD Vance, Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, are involved in the effort. He said Tehran is eager to reach a deal.

Iran confirmed it has received proposals through intermediaries but denied any formal negotiations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said messages outlining potential talks have been exchanged.

Trump said he does not trust the Iranian side but hinted at a “significant” oil- and gas-related gesture from Tehran, which he described as a positive sign. He did not provide details.

The White House said U.S. military operations against Iran continue. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said operations are ongoing as diplomatic options are explored.

Separately, Pakistan offered to host talks between Washington and Tehran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Islamabad is ready to facilitate “meaningful and conclusive” dialogue if both sides agree.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s support for a diplomatic resolution and urged restraint. He called on media to avoid speculation and wait for official updates.

Pakistan has stepped up diplomatic engagement. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held talks with his Iranian counterpart, while Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to support de-escalation efforts.

The current conflict escalated after U.S. and Israeli strikes targeted Iranian leadership. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on U.S. and Israeli assets in the region.

The fighting has disrupted civilian life and raised concerns over global energy supplies. Analysts say diplomatic efforts are expanding but remain fragile, with no immediate ceasefire in sight.
