Punjab plans fuel rationing amid energy crisis

Lahore: Due to the ongoing energy crisis linked to conflict in Gulf countries, the Punjab government is preparing major decisions across the province.

According to sources, the Punjab Energy Department has submitted new recommendations to the provincial government, including a proposal for fuel rationing similar to the federal model.

Sources said there is also a recommendation to extend holidays in educational institutions until April 15, along with considering a hybrid education system in schools.

It has been proposed to introduce a coupon or digital system to ensure fair distribution of petrol and diesel. Another suggestion includes supplying fuel to vehicles on specific days only.

The recommendations also include strict instructions for private institutions to adopt work-from-home policies, as well as a complete ban on non-essential events.

Additionally, the government has been advised to increase metro and bus services, turn off LED billboards and decorative lighting, operate streetlights on alternative modes after 10 PM, and further limit market operating hours.
