Baghdad: A U.S. airstrike in western Iraq has killed 10 fighters, including a commander from Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.
According to international media reports, the United States targeted the headquarters of the Iran-backed group Al-Hashd al-Shaabi in Iraq’s Anbar province. The strike resulted in the death of commander Saad al-Baji along with nine other fighters, while 30 people were seriously injured.
Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), is officially part of Iraq’s military, although it includes several groups that are aligned with Iran.
The airstrike is expected to further increase tensions in the Middle East.
A news agency reported that the attack took place while senior commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces were holding a meeting.
