KARIM: Police have repulsed a terror attack of militants associated with Fitna al Khawarij on an under-construction police station in central Kurram, officials said, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire with security forces.
The attack targeted the Jabo police station while construction work was underway. Workers were present at the site, and a small number of police personnel were on security duty.
Militants demanded that construction be halted, leading to an exchange of fire with police. Two attackers were killed in the clash, officials said.
During the incident, militants also abducted several workers and police personnel. Local elders intervened and held negotiations, after which the abducted workers were released safely.
Police reinforcements later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
Authorities said the attack underscores ongoing security challenges in the region. They added that efforts will continue to ensure stability and protect civilians.
