ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for February 2026.
According to the application, electricity consumers across the country — including those in Karachi — may face an increase of Rs1.64 per unit in their bills.
NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on this request for March 31, 2026. If approved, the additional burden on power consumers nationwide will exceed Rs14 billion.
Key details provided by CPPA for February:
- Total electricity generated: 7.696 billion units
- Units supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs): 7.427 billion units
- Cost of electricity supplied to DISCOs: Rs8.37 per unit
- Actual generation cost: Rs8.15 per unit
- Reference fuel cost (set earlier): Rs6.73 per unit
The difference between the actual cost and the reference cost has led to the positive FCA request of Rs1.64 per unit.
Consumers are likely to see this adjustment reflected in their April or May 2026 bills, depending on NEPRA’s final decision.
