GWADAR: Engineer Hameed Baloch, former Central Vice President of the National Party (NP), has sharply criticized both the provincial and federal governments for their prolonged neglect of the Pasni Fish Harbor, describing its years-long inactivity as a testament to “criminal negligence.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, Baloch expressed deep concern and anger over the dormant state of the facility, which was originally established to serve thousands of fishermen in the coastal town. “The continuous closure of Pasni Fish Harbor is a clear proof of the criminal negligence and anti-Balochistan policies of the Balochistan government and the federal government,” he asserted.
Baloch highlighted that the harbor was constructed with the specific objectives of modernizing the fishing sector, providing essential facilities to local fishermen, and stabilizing the coastal economy. “It is regrettable to say that this important project has been inactive for years, while the rulers are limited to claims and announcements,” he stated.
He further noted that the fishermen of Pasni and the broader Makran coast are already grappling with severe economic hardships, inflation, and a lack of basic amenities. According to Baloch, the government’s indifference has only compounded these challenges. He argued that the full activation of the harbor could significantly improve employment prospects for thousands of families and breathe new life into the local economy.
“The problems of the people of Balochistan have always been outside the priorities of the rulers. Despite big projects and claims of development, the ground reality is that even the basic economic projects of the coastal areas could not be fully activated. The closure of Pasni Fish Harbor is a clear example of this incompetence and lack of seriousness,” he added.
The National Party leader issued a firm demand to the authorities, urging them to activate the Pasni Fish Harbor immediately. He called for the resolution of all technical and administrative hurdles on a priority basis and insisted on practical steps to alleviate the difficulties confronting the fishing community.
Issuing a veiled warning, Baloch stated, “If the government does not resolve this issue immediately, the reaction of the people of the coastal areas may come to the fore, for which the entire responsibility will fall on the rulers.” He concluded by declaring that the policy of further neglecting Balochistan’s resources and coastal economy is “not acceptable under any circircumstances.”
