US to Permanently Close Peshawar Consulate

PESHAWAR: The United States on Thursday decided to permanently close its consulate in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. officials said.

As per details, the move, finalised this week by the US State Department, aims to reduce operational costs.

Currently, 18 American diplomats are posted at the Peshawar consulate.

The consulate’s annual operating expenses were reported at approximately 224 million Pakistani rupees.

The closure marks a major reduction in the US diplomatic footprint in the region.

This decision comes amid broader cost-cutting measures affecting US diplomatic missions globally.
