PTA urges responsible use of social media amid regional tensions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution and responsibility.

The regulatory authority cautioned the public against sharing unverified, inflammatory, or misleading information, particularly during a period marked by heightened geopolitical developments.

The PTA focused on that individuals should refrain from disseminating rumors or fake news and ensure that any content shared online is authentic and based on official sources.

“In view of the prevailing sensitive national situation, PTA urges all citizens to be responsible while using social media and digital platforms,” the statement read.

The authority further advised users not to “share, disseminate, forward or upload information/content which is not authentic and not based upon official sources.”

The PTA warned that the circulation of false or misleading information may lead to legal consequences under applicable laws.

It underlined that maintaining public confidence and national stability requires collective responsibility and prudent digital behavior.

“PTA calls upon all citizens to act with caution, maturity, and a strong sense of national responsibility to help maintain stability and public confidence,” the statement added.

The advisory comes against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The developments have drawn global attention and raised concerns about potential broader implications.

Pakistan’s security situation remains sensitive along its western border. The country’s armed forces are continuing operations under Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, launched in response to what officials described as unprovoked firing from across the border.

The operation targets elements associated with the Afghan Taliban regime following incidents of cross-border aggression.
