ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military continues Operation Ghazb Lil-Haq, a response to provocative actions from Afghanistan. Security sources said 133 Taliban militants have been killed and more than 200 wounded so far.
The Pakistan Air Force carried out major airstrikes across multiple locations in Afghanistan, targeting key military installations. Officials said jets struck important facilities in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia, severely damaging Taliban defenses.
During the operation, two brigade headquarters in Kabul were destroyed in precision air attacks. In Kandahar, a corps headquarters and a brigade headquarters were directly hit and rendered inoperative.
Security sources confirmed Pakistani forces also destroyed a Taliban logistics base in Kandahar. Officials said the military is targeting both air and ground positions, including cross-border logistics facilities.
Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid initially claimed via Twitter at 5 am that Taliban forces had resumed operations in response to the Pakistani airstrikes. He claimed Taliban counterattacks along the border. Meanwhile, multiple Afghan check posts were captured by Pakistani forces, and several Taliban positions raised white flags.
Following the huge setbacks, Mujahid deleted his tweet and went into hiding. Officials said the Taliban leadership, threatened by Pakistan’s ongoing operations, is now taking refuge in caves while Pakistani forces systematically eliminate militant strongholds.
The episode coincided with international media scrutiny after Sky News deleted a misleading report claiming Afghanistan had conducted airstrikes against Pakistan. Security sources said the report was false because Afghanistan currently has no operational air force. Analysts described the report as an attempt to spread fear and promote anti-Pakistan narratives, which failed after fact-checking and public pressure.
Officials emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully capable of defending national sovereignty and neutralizing all threats along the border.
