Militants Kill Six Members of a Baloch Family in Turbat

QUETTA: Armed militants attacked a house in Balochistan province, killing six members of a family, including women and children, and setting the home on fire, police said on Wednesday.

The assault took place in the Meenaz area of Blida tehsil of Turbat. Attackers fired mortar shells and opened gunfire on the house, killing six people from the same family and injuring three others.

Police said the dead included young children. Authorities rushed the घायल to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.

Local officials blamed the attack on militants they described as “Fitna al Hindustan,” a term authorities use for outlawed armed groups operating in the province.

Residents said the attackers targeted the house directly and set it ablaze with occupants inside. The incident triggered outrage in the area, with community members condemning the killing of civilians.

Balochistan has witnessed a long-running insurgency, with militant groups carrying out attacks on security forces, infrastructure and, at times, civilians.

Officials said targeting unarmed civilians, particularly women and children, violates local traditions and basic humanitarian norms. They vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
