ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Qatar on Monday (today) for a two-day trip aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation, the foreign ministry said.
Sharif will travel from Feb. 23–24 at the invitation of Qatari Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other ministers and senior officials.
During the visit, Sharif is expected to meet the Qatari amir to review bilateral ties and discuss political engagement, economic cooperation, energy partnerships and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides will explore new opportunities in trade, investment, infrastructure development and manpower exports.
The foreign office said the visit will allow the two leaders to exchange views on regional and global developments and reaffirm their commitment to peace, stability and shared prosperity.
Pakistan and Qatar maintain strong trade and investment relations. In 2022, the Qatar Investment Authority announced plans to invest $3 billion in Pakistan. The proposed investment targets transport, civil aviation, education, health, culture, media, communications, information technology and labor sectors.
Qatar hosts nearly 300,000 Pakistanis, according to Pakistan’s foreign office. Many work in health, education, engineering, finance and public services, while others are employed in construction and transport.
The two countries also strengthen ties through forums such as the Bilateral Political Consultations, the Joint Ministerial Commission, the Joint Business Council and the Working Group on Trade and Investment.
