OKARA: The Green Corporate Livestock Initiative has established the country’s first-ever gender-sorted straw laboratory in Okara. The project is being described as a transformative step toward modernizing Pakistan’s livestock sector on scientific and commercial foundations.
The facility introduces advanced reproductive biotechnology that allows farmers to select the gender of calves during artificial insemination a breakthrough expected to improve productivity in both dairy and beef farming significantly.
The objective is to strengthen the livestock industry through genetic improvement, corporate farming models, modern breeding technologies, and value addition.
They focused on that the move is designed not only to increase productivity but also to make the sector more sustainable and profitable for farmers across the country.
In this regard, gender-sorted straw technology enables dairy farmers to prioritize female calves, which are essential for milk production. In the beef sector, the ability to select male calves can substantially enhance meat output.
Meanwhile, the initiative has imported elite breeding bulls from the United States, Brazil, Australia, and other countries. These bulls possess superior genetic traits aimed at improving both milk yield and meat production in separate livestock categories.
Many believe it will help reduce operational costs while increasing output and profitability. However, industry observers suggest that this laboratory may represent only the first phase of a much larger transformation.
